Thread Summary

Team Meaner Simikkles shared their challenges in locating and retrieving a cask in Milwaukee, speculating on possible obstacles like deep burial or tree obstruction. Other forum members questioned the accuracy of their findings and requested more details and photos. Potential solutions were discussed, including involving the Milwaukee Parks Department. The conversation also touched on tree age estimation and past search efforts. Another discussion in the forum focused on a location with wood chips and a semi-ground stump, with speculation about secrecy and disappointment over lack of updates. Users discussed a "Treasure's Trove" syndrome, theories, and challenges in sharing information in a treasure hunting context. The forum eagerly awaited further updates and clarification on the discoveries.

Team Meaner Simikkles here! Formerly involved with DAR, the gang got together and within 41 minutes had determined we knew where on the Milwaukee bit we needed to go. Road tripped it to Milwaukee last weekend and it was even better than we thought. Followed our hunches and found exactly where the cask should be with the picture yeilding several more clues we hadn't seen before we got there. Dug like maniacs ( or prairie dogs) and reached the  following conclusions: A. Cask was uncovered by someone who didn't know what it was & is  long gone B. Cask is still there, but buried MUCH deeper than 2 feet C. Cask is inaccessible due to growth of tree over digging spot- it's UNDER the tree now! Unless we get a back hoe and topple the tree, we don't think we can get to it. What next?? We're still wondering if there is a way to nicely ask the Milwaukee Parks Department to dig up the tree for us, but can't think of a logical explanation to give them to do so!!! LOL Still, we are going to probably give it one more try before the snow flies of trying to subtly dig again without attracting too much attention. Too much fun!!:)

I'm confused, you found the exact location of the cask with solid confirmers that have not previously been discovered?  Do you mind posting the solution?  Very exciting news.

fox

yes, what are these never before mentioned confirmers? your conclusions are a little iffy also. if you indeed have the 'exact' location, then how can you say that it is 'either' deeper than others 'or' under a tree? that alone says you are talking about '2' locations.

wilhouse

according to the book it could be up to 3 feet deep. wilhouse

pics would be good thanks

Cormac

Would love to hear about your "solve"

shecrab

Yes, let's please have the solution--we dont care if you find the casque--and you'll obviously not get much except the glory--so let's hear it!

deehnsn, This is exciting news indeed! Which tree did you identify as the one with the "letter from the country of wonderstone's hearth"? What letter was it? (anxiously waiting to see photos....) AP

cw0909, It probably is not the "walled tree", because that tree was cut down months ago...and "Team Meaner" said they needed to "topple" a tree to get to the casque. Having personally spent 100's of hours in Lake Park searching, I really am anxious to hear about the new confirmers and clues from image 10. The lion bridge is still under re-construction and there mounds of ground up wood chips piled around the area. The "interesting stump" that may have been the "proud tall 5th" is now semi-ground out and falling apart.  Thank goodness for photos. Hope that Team Meaner Simiikkles will share soon. AP

fox

Why is it that we have heard no other explanations or seen any pictures from deehnsm?  They/he/she...seemed so sure of their theory yet seem to have completely disappeared from this site.  Sure makes me go hmmmmmmmmmm...

animal painter

Fox, I have a feeling that the "Treasure's Trove" syndrome of secretiveness may be the reason for their silence.  It is hard for former Trovers to share info when, in the previous hunt, information was hoarded until the "token" was actually in one's possession...for fear of having hard work stolen by a "claim jumper". I know how that feels...

fox

you and me both ap, you and me both.

cwo9o9, I went to Lake Park again to see if anything had changed drastically. More trees were gone and stumps were ground out.  I used my probe around the old "interesting stump".  It had a lot of loose ground up wood chips and dirt around it.  The probe hit nothing but roots, and my metal detector found some old rusty nails. I also probed around the base of the cut down walled-tree.  It is still surrounded by impermeable rock or concrete.  I could not probe beyond the inch or two of dirt on top of the wall area.  The "G" carved into that walled tree was such a strong confirmer...I was so sure it was the right spot...
